Python -c 'from subprocess import PIPE, Popen print(Popen(, stdout=PIPE).stdout.read().strip())' I can recover the AES key from OS X's Keychain (it's stored in Base 64): security find-generic-password -w -a Chrome -s Chrome Safe Storage Seems it's not having from the old keychain in the new keychain that causes the problem, makes sense as this is required to decode the login.data file.I'm trying to use Chromium cookies in Python, because Chromium encrypts its cookies using AES (with CBC) I need to reverse this.

Start up Chrome and all your passwords should be back. Then delete login.data from the Chrome folder in the application support folder on the new mac and copy login.data from the old mac hard drive. Copy from your old keychain into the new mac's keychain. Add your old mac keychain to the new keychain as local2 (guides elsewhere on how to do this). Delete from the keychain on the new mac. Thanks /u/randomaccess3_dfir, you were halfway there and it gave me a good starting point. Thought I'd add an update to this as I know from my own googling that there are a lot of people looking for similar solutions. There are various python scripts which pull the safe storage password and profess to decrypt the login.data file but I mainly wanted to know if there's another way as I already have the "key" for the login.data file.įailing that, is there some way to convert the OSX chrome login.data file to one that can be read on a Windows OS machine allowing me to use ChromePass or some other more appropriate software? Long story short I recovered my old keychain from the old MBP and copied it onto the new MBP (I now have both the old keychain and my new MBPs keychain) and as I have the password for the old keychain I also have the Chrome Safe Storage password associated with the 2011 MBP Chrome login.data file. I've tried copying the login.data from the old MBP and moving it to the new MBP chrome folder but naturally this didn't work. I've been through this with apple tech a number of times and just can't get it to work. I was hoping to boot the old MBP 2011 drive using my new MBP but it won't allow me to for various reasons relating to APFS formatting on the new MBP vs the old MBP hard drive. Long story short my MBP 2011 died recently and I lost my Chrome login data as I never synced it to my account (hindsight is 20/20). I'm hoping I may be able to get a little guidance on this as I seem to have exhausted every option available to me so far.
